Dianthus plumarius ‘Haytor White’ is a classic evergreen perennial with grey-green foliage and frilly, fragrant white flowers.
Its flowers are instantly recognizable – bearing ten white petals with fringed edges.
The leaves are grey-green, simple and silky soft, forming a dense groundcover.
Cette plante peut vivre dans de nombreuses parties du jardin – à la mi-ombre, au soleil, dans un sol sec ou frais.
But it does flourish especially in places where others cannot – high sun, dry soil.
Nos plantes ont été cultivées en extérieur, elles sont donc bien adaptées au climat tempéré et peuvent vivre dehors sans aucun problème.
L'histoire:
This one is a linguistic gem!
For the word ‘pink’ as we known it today – describing a soft red, a pastel red, a mix of red and white (whichever you prefer) – may have actually referred to the classic Dianthus plumarius flower first, and was only after used to designate the color. The origin of the word ‘pink’ is uncertain, but this theory is my personal favorite because it means that tlants define the world around us.
And that is good.
This variety comes from a hybridization of Dianthus plumarius et Dianthus caryophyllus.
Dianthus plumarius is a European perennial, known as the principal ancestor of many varieties of carnation, both old and new.
Dianthus caryophyllus is a Mediterranean perennial, remarkable for its distinctive sweet fragrance, reminiscent of cloves I’d say.
This makes ‘Hayton White’ resilient, drought tolerant, fragrant and magnificent. What more can one ask for?
It is known to be somewhat invasive in many states in the United States – so do NOT travel state-side with your Dianthus!
