Tinantia pringlei ‘Variegata’ is a variegated Commelinaceae with cream-white stripes and dark sprinkles on top.
This charming variety is an excellent ground cover with a creeping habit, rooting at the nodes.
Its flowers are a slightly lighter blue than the typical variety.
The leaves are olive green marbled with purple and light cream.
Our plants have been grown outside so they are well adapted to the temperate climate and can live outside without any problem.
This plant can live in many parts of the garden – in light shade, in the sun, in dry or fresh soil.
Just know that these are deciduous plants – after the first frost, she will drop all her leaves and wilt downwards.
But fear not!
She will always regrow from the base after frost, and also self-seeds spontaneously.
If you want to avoid the drama, Tinantia pringlei also loves to live inside, where it makes a beautiful trailing plant.
The Tale:
It resembles the Tradescantias but it’s actually a close cousin from the Commelinaceae family.
