Santolina chamaecyparissus is a fragrant, evergreen shrub that is densely covered in soft, grey-green leaves.
Hailing from the Aster family, Santolina grows in little bushes – rooting her branches to create new cushions nearby.
If the conditions are right, one bush can turn into a little path of deliciously aromatic silver mounds.
TIP: Make sure to trim her back after the flowering period is up to keep the mounds looking well kempt.
During the summer months, it produces masses of yellow, button-like composite flowerheads, held high on slender stems.

      The Tale

Chamaecyparissus means ‘ground cypress’ though it is very clearly not a cypress.

Nor is it a cotton or a lavendar.

Though it is loved by the cosmetics industry for its tonic properties.

And by the insect-repellent industry when in its fumigant form.
