Persicaria microcephala ‘Red Dragon’ is a clump-forming Persicaria cultivar that dazzles with its deep purple foliage, bright red stems and light white flowers in the summer.
As a sterile cultivar which lacks the spreading stoloniferous characteristics of species’ plants.

TIPS:

  • Make most of the colourful foliage by positioning beside contrasting foliage of silver or lime green
  • Looks wonderful in a pot so plant it in a terracotta pot and place it on your balcony or by your front door for an extra dramatic entrance.

TECHNICAL NOTES:
  • While the Persicarias are drought resistant over time, they does require water to establish itself if you are planting it outside so do keep the soil moist in the first few months.
  • They are not subject to any particular diseases or pests.
  • A tough pruning in the fall will allow for magnificent new foliage to appear in the spring.

The Tales:

Persicaria means “peach-like” in Latin, referring to the form of the leaves.
