👨🌾GARDENING TIPS👨🌾:
-
- Deadheading the flowers as they fade will encourage new blooms to appear.
- Heleniums will become more drought resistant with time as their roots do require fresh cool soil, As the plant establishes itself, the roots will seek the moisture further underground, but a little mulching will always help.
The Tales:
Heleniums are tall perennials, hailing from North America, where they are usually found around marshes or in any number of humid, but sunny locations.
The genus is named for Helen of Troy, daughter of Zeus (god of all gods) and Leda (a princess who then became a Spartan queen, known mainly for being depicted with a swan).
In another era, leaves of some Helenium cultivars were used to make snuff – giving it its nickname ‘sneezeweed’.
