Helenium Flammendes Katchen is a very tall variety of helenium – colorful, floriferous and long lasting in every way.

The flowers have large petals and will put on a color-changing show all summer – moving seamlessly through fire tones of red, orange, copper, and yellow as the large center changes from a deep brown to a golden yellow.

The leaves are lanceolate, dark olive green and slightly serrated.

This perennial is overall incredibly tough : hardy, sun-loving, wind and disease resistent, all while putting on a spectacular floral show.

In fact, it has even earned the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. And that is the highest you can go!

Helenium are native to North America, where they are usually found around marshes or in any number of humid, but sunny locations.

The genus is named for Helen of Troy, daughter of Zeus (god of all gods) and Leda (a princess who then became a Spartan queen, known mainly for being depicted with a swan).

In another era, leaves of some Helenium cultivars were used to make snuff – giving it its nickname ‘sneezeweed’.
