Geranium ‘Rozanne’ is a drought tolerant and hardy geranium, featuring a two-colored flowers that bloom continuously for several months.
The flowers are absolutely unique as they are two-colored – blue with a white center – and their flowering cycle makes ‘Rozanne’ the most foriferous geranium out there.
Its leaves are large and apple-green, slightly speckled with dark green in the center.
Its sprawling habit allows it to form semi-bushy mats.
TIPS: When grown in partial shade, its flowers exhibit more intense colors.
A Note on the Difference between Geraniums and Pelargoniums
These are confused all the time. What you know to be Geraniums are probably Pelargoniums. And it has been a fascinating journey out of the darkness for me!
The physical distinction can be hard to spot as the details are in the number of petals.
Geraniums
- Flowers have five similar petals
- Considered perennials that come back year after year.
- Bloom, Dormancy, Bloom, Dormancy > and Repeat.
- To ease confusion, they are sometimes called ‘Hardy Geraniums’.
Pelargonium
- Flowers have two upper petals which are different from the three lower petals
- Annuals (can be semi hardy in some climates but in general are sold for one seasons use)
- Bloom, The End.
- To ease confusion, they are sometimes called ‘Tender Geraniums’.
The Tales:
This variety was introduced by Blooms of Bressingham and was named “Plant of the Century” at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2013.
There is another two-tone flowering geranium – Geranium wallichianum – but it is difficult to grow, thriving only in light soils because of an inability to handle excess water.
