Leucanthemum vulgare is a hardy, native perennial plant that produces bright, cheerful daisy-like flowers from late spring to summer.
The flowers are large, white petals with a large yellow center, held high on sturdy stems.
Unlike some composite flowers that open and close with light levels, oxeye daisies usually remain open throughout the day in suitable conditions.
The basal leaves form a low rosette – light green, spoon-shaped with toothed margins, while the upper stem leaves are smaller, narrower, and more deeply lobed.
The foliage is deciduous – it will dry out in autumn and return with panache the following spring.
